Fancy Shmancy Date Night in Germantown

So, you want to impress that new love interest of yours? Or you’re looking to treat your long-term S.O. to something a little more elevated than that pho place you frequent multiple times per week? OR you and your fellow single pal(s) are looking for a luxurious ~ treat yourselves ~ night out on the town?

Well you, my friend, have come to the right place.

This date night is perfect for the week or weekend, so whether you’re perfectly happy waiting until Saturday night or just can’t hold off any longer, you’ve got options! Though technically with this experience you’re limited to Thursday-Sunday because our first stop is closed Monday-Wednesday.

Oh, and also – we didn’t title this “Fancy Shmancy Date Night in Germantown” for nothing. The dining is fine if you know what we mean, therefore you’re going to be investing a bit more of your hard-earned cash than what you might be used to for an average date night. If we didn’t think it was worth it though, we wouldn’t have written this up.

Time: ~3 hours

Cost: $$$

Neighborhood: Germantown

Walkability: Between stops it’s only a few blocks, so definitely walkable when the weather permits!

Stop 1 — Dinner at Tailor

After Tailor was named among Bon Appetit’s Top 50 New Restaurants in 2019 and placed 7th on their list of Best New Restaurants in the Country, and then was named as one of Thrillist’s Best New Restaurants in the Country, we knew we had to try this esteemed eatery for ourselves. And may we just say, the experience we had at Tailor was second to none!

Guests who dine at Tailor are treated to an intimate dinner party that is both elevated and cozy thanks to the environment, the food, the drinks, and the service. You’ll be served between eight and ten dishes from their set menu of South Asian American fare, each of which are explained in detail by the chef prior to being delivered to your table. All of it makes for a very special experience that’s pretty hard to come by in Nashville!

Some things worth nothing: Dinner lasts about two hours, reservations are required (they have seatings at 6:00 PM and 8:30 PM Thursday to Sunday), and “tickets” are purchased beforehand and include tax and gratuity so that you don’t have to worry about pesky transactions the night of (unless you buy a drink or two to accompany your dinner). Though the pre-paid ticket for the meals alone are quite pricey, we recommend opting in for the drink pairing which comes at an additional cost if you can swing it. If you have any dietary restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, etc.), you can note that when you make the reservation and they’ll go out of their way to accommodate you!

Stop 2 — Drinks at Mother’s Ruin

If this isn't romance.

After dinner, we fully endorse heading down the street to another buzzy new stop in Germantown – Mother’s Ruin. This hip watering hole has a cozy, industrial speakeasy vibe that we think pairs nicely with the interiors at Tailor and creates a bit of consistency for your evening out on the town! It’s dark and moody and the perfect way to end your next date night (or start it, depending on when your Tailor reservations are). We love their versatile menu of drink options, too, ensuring there’s truly something for everyone.
